The towhees are back and singing!

I just finished this eastern towhee painted on a gessoed wood panel. I worked from a photo I took a few weeks ago on the rail trail near my home. I love his blood-red eye and the little soul patch of feathers under his beak. Do you know his song? The mnemonic is “drink your teeeeeea.” Once you learn it, you’ll be able to find this male singing, often below eye level, in a brushy thicket near you.

Eastern towhee in song is an 8 x 10 inch acrylic painted on a wood panel.
