Somewhere in Wells, Maine, there’s a small segment of beach where no dogs are permitted. It was there that we saw a great mixed flock of least sandpipers, semipalmated sandpipers, semipalmated plovers and sanderlings. I nearly burned an entire battery with shots of the flock and individual birds. Prone in the sand, I was able to get a few at bird’s eye view, with the waves crashing in the middle distance between his legs. It’s my favorite image of the day. Three months later, this second painting from that session is done: Least sandpiper in Wells, Maine.
Least sandpiper in Wells, Maine is a 8" x 10" acrylic painted on a wood panel. It sold in February 2023.
