Machias Island puffins

I was extremely fortunate to score tickets for the puffin tour with Bold Coast Charters. And even more fortunate to have a day with calm seas and a landing on the island. We spent an hour with some new friends in the very close quarters of the photo blind. This painting is the first in a series that I have planned to make use of the reference photos I collected.

That tour was a truly wonderful experience. The tickets sell out in about a half hour on the first day they are offered. Plan ahead to get your spot. There are lots of videos on YouTube, but this one I particularly enjoyed. It is very faithfully done and was taken early in the season when there are not only puffins, but common murres, razorbills, and gannets on the island.

Machias Island puffins is a 16x20 inch acrylic on wood panel.

It is currently showing at Valley Artisans Market Gallery in Cambridge, NY. It will be back up for sale after October 21st.
