Warbler spark

My neck hurts from looking up into the treetops, searching for the source of that zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip titititi tseeeeee!

This male Blackburnian warbler was photographed not far from my home, just across the border in New York state early on a spring morning in May. The trees were in their most glorious bud-bursting display of chartreuse and golden yellow.

I finally spotted him—a tiny spark of bright flame orange and black moving quickly from twig to twig in the nascent canopy. I snapped off a flurry of shots in hope of getting something I could use. It was all over in about four seconds.

warbler spark is a 8" x 10" acrylic painted on a wood panel. It sold last November.
